Michigan Taser Law

<< Uncategorized  Uncategorized >>

On August 6, 2012, Tasers will be legal in Michigan.  However, this news is not as good as I thought it would be.  There are several exceptions that will make it impossible for any but Michigan residents to sell there.

The bill has passed allowing Michigan civilians with Concealed Pistol Licenses to possess TASER ECDs.  Below are the links to the Bills.

Senate Bill 029

Senate Bill 030

The buyer and dealer are required to have a CPL, Concealed Pistol License.  The buyer must receive some training from the dealer at the time of sale.  Selling to Michigan residents via the internet will be prohibited, based on the training requirements. Soon, Taser will provide a document that will satisfy requirements for in-person training.  TASER ECD kits also come with both a training manual and a DVD but they do not meet the legal training requirements on their own.  Dealers are also required to keep records of their TASER ECD sales.

Although a buyer has a CPL, the TASER C2 model is ‘electronically’ locked and programmed to accept a specific code that is provided when the customer completes an online felony/identity check.  There is no cost.  It’s based on public records information and will take the customer about 4-6 minutes to complete.

So, if you live in Michigan and have a CPL, then you will be able to sell Tasers in Michigan.

This law is disappointing to everyone selling on the Internet.  And, no, even if you live in Michigan, you won’t be able to sell Tasers to anyone who lives in Michigan through the Internet.

Thank you for keeping us updated.

Thank you for keeping us updated with the new Regulations.

Thanks for clarifying.

If ‘pro’ is the opposite of ‘con’, then what is the opposite of ‘progress’?

Thanks for the clarification, Mike. The updates are always helpful.

That is disappointing. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Mike, I do have a CPL and live in Michigan. Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the updates appreciate the time u take to let us know
These very important things for our business

Too bad Tasers are still so over-regulated in Michigan

their focus must be inter state commerce. You really believe that is going to be policed?

MI has always puzzled me. How can any state outlaw non-lethal self defense weapons? Guess the women will continue to use wasp spray and cans of oven cleaner!

this is bad news but we still have a lot of other states to sell to thanks mike

( Mi-chi-gan = Missed-a-gain ) …..seems like they should allow their citizens full range of protecting themselves and move on to taking care of their budget. :)

Silly that it’s easier to procure a deadly weapon than it is to purchase a self defense item like a stun gun or Taser.

Your information is always timely and accurate. Thanks.

Thanks, Michael.
I’ll be getting my CPL. Went to an NRA “Ladies ‘n Lead” event with my wife, and there were quite a few people interested in Tasers. To compound all our other problems, Michigan ranks 8th or 9th in violent assaults against women, according to the NRA instructor. Still trying to drag Michigan kicking and screaming back to personal liberties.

Thanks for the update.

Great update many thanks..ed

you would think that you could carry a stun gun or a taser instead of a gun that kills.

We know how these legal issues evolve. It is moving in the right direction, I am quite optimistic. Thanks Micahel for the usual updates.

Thanks for keeping us current. Should I remove the Taser C2 articles on my blog that were tailored to the large urban cities of Michigan?…Don’t live Michigan.

Good news for Michigan Brick and Mortar Stores. I wonder if they will require Michigan Dealers with a CPL to get Tasered before selling too? :) That would be shocking news for them!

Thanks for the update, Mike, but this news is very disappointing. As a native of Michigan, I can’t believe the Neanderthal decision making that is going on in Lansing. I was really looking forward to having a new market open up to sell stun guns and Tasers. All I can say is, thank God I live in Arizona now where each citizen is allowed to protect themselves. At the moment I’m back in Detroit visiting family, and I can tell you that every night on the news it is one story after another of some innocent person getting robbed, mugged, beaten or raped here. Maybe the police prefer to interview victims from a hospital bed, I don’t know? What I do know is that I’ve given both my mother and sister a stun gun, and the law be damned.

This is just the governments way of yet again disarming the law abiding citizens of this Country. One day very soon it will be illegal for anyone but the government to own and carry guns. Wait and see if im not right.

Thanks for the information as disappointing as it is. We can always count on you to keep us updated. Thanks again Mike!

I wonder, since I have an Ohio license (concealed carry ) if I can go to Michigan to sell tasers, I believe its a sister state, so I can carry my weapon there also

John in PA

Goverment is always making it hard for the little person to make a living.

Thanks Mike, I’ve been following this also. You can have a gun in Michigan but not a “non-lethal” weapon, go figure…

Thanks for keeping up informed of the laws that effect our business

Wow, its harder to get a taser or stun gun than a gun in MI

im getting a cpl and when i do i will be taking names to send to lansing to help pass these laws,i think tasers and stun guns should be legal in all states, i will start in michigan.who ever wants to help please send your signed name and the reason to,rick schram 2927 little glendora rd buchanan,mi 49107 thanks

Great Information. Although we can’t sell in Michigan, I’m glade to see citizens have another self defense device they can us to protect themselves.

A bit disappointing to learn the facts about Michigan. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Mike, thank you for that noble information about Taser law in Michigan. Do you have any information pertaining to taser law in Massachusetts. I do not know if our hands are tied here in Mass. Can you let us know? Thank you,
Best Regards,

Bryan Craddock

Thank you Mike. States that restrict your right to defend yourself should be banned from the union!!

These civilian tasers really do have a better takedown rate than a 9mm, yet they won’t kill anyone. I’ve even read where they have been used to save lives. Michigan needs to lighten up a bit when it comes to allowing people to defend themselves.

thanks for the information maybe they will get it right soon

Donald "T. Goose" Helbig

Thanks Mike. Good info. I have my CCW permit, but I live in Ohio. It’s still a no go for me. I don’t want to disband the union, so I think I’ll stay in Ohio.

It’s all about the money. Everybody wants a piece of the pie.

One day TASER Guns will be legal in all 50 states

Michigan is the one and only state that requires a CCW before purchasing a stun or Taser. Did Michigan bother looking at the statistics in other states where a stun/Taser had been used to escape from danger? Those devices helped people avoid becoming labeled as victims, whereas PPO’s/restraining orders DO NOT! (I speak from experience…)

thanks mike for keeping us informed

My husband was originally from Michigan. Its partly because some of their archaic laws that he left the state. We now live in Arkansas where the laws are less restrictive. Thanks for the update.
