Stun guns are normally an electroshock weapon which are able to temporarily disable a would be assailant or attacker using electric shock. There are some stun guns which when used the user will need to be close to their attacker in order for them to be effective and there are others which can be used from a distance. However, when ever using a stun gun a person will need to make sure that it makes contact with the other person’s body.

Stun guns generate 5 to 8 milliamperes of electricity to the body. When you use a stun gun, it releases high voltage to the muscles scrambling the electrical pulses sent from the brain to other parts of the body. When these electrical impulses are disrupted, it results to the temporary shut down of our body’s electrical system. When there is temporary shut down of the body’s electrical system, it is temporarily paralyzed due to the disruption of the brain’s electrical signals. This period causes confusion, giving you the opportunity to run away and to find help. Do not be afraid to use the device because it is not made to kill someone.

Even though stun guns have obtained significant media attention, many still want to know, “do stun guns work?” For the most part, a stun gun is a highly effective personal safety tool that can be carried in almost any part of the country. Right now, nine states prohibit the ownership of stun guns, as do some individual cities and counties. For those who have the legal option of carrying a stun gun, this compact yet powerful weapon provides an effective means of self defense in an easily concealable package. Understanding how stun guns work can mean the difference between escape and jeopardy.

When looking to purchase a stun gun you will find that there are many different sizes of stun guns as well as many different voltages that you can choose from. But generally the higher the voltage on it the quicker the full effect of the device will be felt by the would be assailant. Although lower voltage models are just as effective as the higher voltage ones they just take a few seconds longer for them to provide the full effect on the would be assailant. So if you are looking for something that really is effective and will work quickly for you then look at purchasing one which has a higher voltage to it.

Do stun guns work against all perpetrators? Stun guns will provide an effective, disabling blow to almost any attacker. Keep in mind, though, that nothing is entirely foolproof. Certain people may not be affected by the shock that the stun gun delivers, although this is extremely rare. Those who may not experience the full effects of a stun gun include the mentally ill, or those who are under a heavy influence of illegal drugs or alcohol.

With the rising criminality rates nowadays, some of us consider in purchasing portable self-defense tools like tasers, pepper sprays and stun guns. These tools are not only convenient to use but they are also handy and can be kept inside our pockets and bags everywhere we go. Criminals and petpetrators are not choosy on who they like to victimize. More so, they are only lurking behind the dark corners of the streets waiting for the right victim to pass by.

Most attackers and perpetrators are repelled by merely seeing this device because they know how it hurts if they are stung with it. Majority of them go away by merely hearing the cracking sound and seeing the electrodes sparking in a stun gun. There is no way that the shock will transfer to you if your attacker is touching you.

It’s best to learn how stun guns work before you get one. If you want to buy one then you must know how to use it properly. When you know how to operate it safely and effectively you’ll feel more confident using it. Another thing to remember is to make sure that your city or state allows its use because in some places stun guns are restricted.

The news is always reporting bad guys using stun guns to do bad things. Seldom do we get a report about someone who uses a stun gun to defend themselves. Below is such a report.

A woman whose boyfriend was shot by Las Vegas police on Monday told authorities she got away when he attacked her by shocking him with a stun gun, a Metro arrest report said.

Officers later confronted Allen J. Stout, 36, and shot him after he pointed a gun at them, police said. Stout was taken to University Medical Center for treatment and later booked into the county jail, police said.

According to the arrest report, the woman was in the apartment she shared with Stout at 7300 Pirates Cove about 2 p.m. when he came in through a window, grabbed her by the hair and bit her. She ran outside, but Stout knocked her to the sidewalk, pounded her head into the concrete and choked her until she felt like she was going to pass out, the report said.

Stout pulled a handgun, threatening to kill the woman and himself. She then pulled out a stun gun and shocked him several times, the report alleges, causing Stout to drop the gun. The woman threw the gun away and ran, the report said.

Another victory for the good guys.

I don’t know why the the police are surprised that scumbags are attacking the elderly and disabled. They will always go after the weak. That’s why its important to be strong even if you have to carry something extra to give you that strength…like a pepper spray or stun gun — no matter your age.

In Cincinnati Police Detectives say criminals are now attacking disabled people and the elderly.

Investigators said it’s unusual that crooks are targeting those who can’t fight back, and what’s even more outrageous is that they still do it even if they only get away with a few dollars.

Joanne, an attack victim said she went to the store up the street from her Roselawn Assisted Living Community when she noticed someone following her.

“I turned and asked, ‘What do you want?’ I turned my chair so it made him off balance, and then he hit me in the chest,” she said.

Joanne said she’s still scared of her attacker and she’s angry that some people think she’s weak.

“It makes me feel like I’m not the person I am. I’m not an easy target, but I’m not a strong person. I’m in this wheelchair for a reason,” Joanne said.

Joanne said she only had change so the culprit didn’t really get away with anything.

Detectives said Joanne is not alone. To date, they know of four cases similar to hers.

“Usually, they assault the victims right away, by punching them in the face, knocking them to the ground and taking their property,” said Investigator Jeff McKinney.

Detectives said they think the crimes are related. McKinney said, “They’re teens or young adults between 15 and 21. They work in groups of two and three, looking for people who they believe are easy targets.”

Joanne said she now carries a cellphone and stun gun. She said she also has a plan should she be attacked again.

“I’ll find ways to take care of myself. I’ll run over him, that’s what I say,” she said.

Investigators said they have some pretty good leads. They said they’ve notified assisted living communities and are looking at some surveillance videos.

In the meantime, they are urging disabled people and the elderly to stay in well-lit areas and travel in groups.

Once again, you see the necessity to protect yourself, no matter your age. The police cannot be there when trouble happens. You have to be willing and able to protect yourself. If you don’t feel able, then you need to get something to give you an edge. Some sort of equalizer.

The story below is about someone who did something that I can really identify with. I know this is vigilantism and frowned up. But, sometimes a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do!

A French Valley (California) father charged with tying up and using a stun gun on a man who sent an explicit photo to his 17-year-old daughter struck a plea deal Wednesday, according to the Riverside County district attorney’s office.

William Frederick Atwood, 46, pleaded guilty to one count of false imprisonment and another of assault with a firearm, office spokesman John Hall said. Atwood had been charged with multiple counts, including felony assault and making criminal threats.

Atwood faces three years probation and 128 days of weekends in the custody of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Hall said. Those in the weekend custody program typically spend time in jail, on work detail or are placed under home monitoring.

William Atwood, left, pleaded guilty to binding and using a stun gun on a man who sent an explicit photo to his teenage daughter.

In exchange for the guilty pleas, most of the charges were dropped. If Atwood completes his probation with no problems, he could seek to have his felony convictions reduced to misdemeanors, Hall said.

Authorities said Atwood lured Justin Moore, of Temecula, to his home on Jan. 10 last year after Moore sent Atwood’s daughter a picture of his genitals.

In court, Moore testified that when he went to Atwood’s home, he expected to discuss the photo and maybe have dinner. Instead, authorities said Atwood fired a shotgun blast over Moore’s car and ordered Moore to strip to his boxers.

Atwood then bound Moore with zip ties and shocked him on the neck with a stun gun, police said. Atwood also threatened to bury Moore on the Pechanga Indian Reservation, authorities said.

After about an hour, authorities said, Atwood turned Moore over to police, saying Moore was trespassing.

Atwood’s lawyer said his client believed Moore peered into another daughter’s window in the early morning hours within a few days of when the photo was sent. Atwood also filed a police report accusing Moore of sending pornography to a minor.

The only difference between me and Mr. Moore is that I don’t think I would be shocking him on the neck!

I don’t believe this will be a practical self defense product for the regular person, but it is interesting.

The Armstar Bodyguard is like a hands-free version of a stun gun.

David Brown came up with the bodyguard idea seven years ago after a mountain lion mauled three people in California. He realized the new tool could be used — not only for personal self-defense — but also by the police and military.

“It works as a defensive shield. It works like baton,” Brown said.

“You’ll see a flashlight is built into it. You’ll see a laser built into it and then there’s also a video camera that provides live video streaming and broadcasts it back,” explained Andrew Quintero, Armstar’s president. “The original ideas that went into this started to evolve. A lot of that was done in a thinktank environment at Kevin Costner’s house.”

Costner is a financial backer of the bodyguard tool.

“They’ll start at about a $1,000 and go up depending on how much stuff you want to go into it,” Quintero said.

The tool is just coming out of the testing stage.

The cost is going to be high and I just don’t see someone going to the store at night with this on their arm.

Actually I’m pretty sure they are not effective at all!

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office says 22-year-old Dureco Brown walked into Bank Of America on New Warrington Road with a stun gun about 9:20 Monday morning.

“Brown displayed a stun gun and demanded money from one of the tellers,” said Deputy Chris Welborn. “He then jumped over the counter, grabbed the teller’s purse and ran out of the bank.”

Deputies on patrol saw Brown get into a taxi. They were able to stop the taxi and arrest Brown.

Brown was booked into the Escambia County Jail on charges of theft, robbery and resisting arrest.

I’m sure he will be back on the streets soon to try this again.

Montreal police neutralized the suspect using a Taser stun gun.

A woman, said to be in her 30s, was seen by neighbors waving a knife on the street at about 1: 45 a.m. near a downtown intersection, Montreal police spokesperson Danny Richer said.

Officers with the police tactical unit confronted the woman in her home and subdued her, Richer said.

Hopefully Canada will someday allow their citizens to legally protect themselves with non-lethal self defense devices, like stun guns and Tasers.

For the past several months, we’ve been working on upgrading the voltage on the Runt stun guns and the Pretender cell phone stun gun. I felt this was necessary to keep you more competitive in the stun gun market.

The new higher voltage Runts and Pretenders are finally in stock. The Runts are now 2.5 million, 3.5 million and 4.5 million volts. The Pretender is 4.5 million volts.

These upgraded stun guns are in stock and ready to ship.

I’ve decided not to raise the prices. At least not for a while. The prices will be the same as they’ve always been. Just sell a ton of them and I will make it up on quantity.

There are new images for the Runt stun guns which you can find at http://www.safetytechnology.com/runtstungun.htm. The Pretender cell phone stun guns will keep the same model numbers. There are new model numbers for the Runt stun guns. They are:

A 68-year-old paroled bank robber who they called the “stun gun bandit” because he used a stun gun to rob, has been arrested after robbing his own bank.

Lester Robert Evans, 68, was arrested after LAPD investigators said they found evidence in his skid row apartment that helped tie him to a December boutique robbery. In that crime, Evans was captured on video shocking the young clerk with a stun gun, said LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon.

“We had a feeling this guy would surface eventually,” Vernon said. “It just turns out he decided to rob a bank where he had his own account.”

Police were called Tuesday to the Bank of the West branch at 2nd and San Pedro streets in downtown L.A. after it was robbed by “a white man in his 60s,” authorities said. Within minutes, officers had come up with the name of Evans, a local man who was on parole for bank robbery.

Detectives verified Evans was on parole and went to his apartment in the 400 block of East 7th Street on skid row. Detectives searched the apartment and seized evidence that linked the parolee to the bank robbery, as well as the boutique robbery, police said. Evans was booked for the bank robbery and held without bail for a parole violation.

The lesson here is never rob the bank where you have an account, go there regularly to cash your Social Security check, people know you and have your address on file.
