Once again, Tasers are used to effectively and with out causing damage but citizens are denied this self defense product. This incident took place in Australia where there was a massive confiscation of guns by the government in 1997-1999.

A police officer used a Taser to subdue a pit bull terrier yesterday when it viciously attacked a woman at her home in Sydney’s west.

The attack came as an ambulance service spokesman said 12 people had been bitten by dogs in the past 24 hours.

Police were called to the Parramatta house about 10:30am to investigate an assault on a man who also lived there.

When police moved in to arrest the woman because she was hindering their investigation, the dog attacked one officer and then latched on to the woman’s arm.

An officer then stunned the animal with a Taser and restrained it in a room in the house.

Nice to know that Tasers also work against attacking dogs.

Another example of police having and successfully using self defense tools which they deny to citizens.

Montreal police neutralized the suspect using a Taser stun gun.

A woman, said to be in her 30s, was seen by neighbors waving a knife on the street at about 1: 45 a.m. near a downtown intersection, Montreal police spokesperson Danny Richer said.

Officers with the police tactical unit confronted the woman in her home and subdued her, Richer said.

Hopefully Canada will someday allow their citizens to legally protect themselves with non-lethal self defense devices, like stun guns and Tasers.

John Coffin, 56, from Sarasota, Florida, heard his wife scream from their garage. He ran to the garage and saw two Sheriff Deputies pinning his wife to the floor.

The deputies were trying to serve Coffin with civil papers. They entered the garage without a search warrant or arrest warrant.

Coffin jumped on the two deputies, wrestling a Taser from one and used it to knock the deputy out by hitting him in the head two or three times with the butt of the Taser.

Coffin and his wife were eventually arrested. They charged his wife with obstruction even though she was under no obligation to follow their orders to bring her husband outside.

Prosecutors asked for over a year of prison time. A jury was selected, but before the trial began, the judge acquitted John Coffin on five of six felony charges. Coffin pleaded no contest to the remaining charge of taking a Taser from one of the deputies during the fight.

The judge let Coffin off with timed serve, for the last charge, which was 8 days in jail. He also had to pay $358 for court costs.

The judge said that the deputies broke the law by stopping the garage door from going down and then entering the garage. He also said that Mr. Coffin had a right to resist.

Now, I’m a strong supporter of the police, but, besides being individuals they are also an arm of the government. This is validation that an citizen still has rights, when it comes to his home and property, that should be inviolate even by the police.
